Food Tasting at Elize
A new restaurant has opened its doors on one of the most popular streets in Downtown Orlando, and I have the 4-1-1 on it. Elize, a restaurant heavily inspired by the culture and culinary arts of The Netherlands, has opened its door for Floridians and tourists alike; sitting adjacent to the 55 West building in Downtown Orlando. Recently, I was invited to a private media preview to try some of their unique dishes, and I was even more ecstatic to check out the new venue.
As I entered the restaurant’s Orlando location, I quickly noticed the Dutch-inspired decor and interior architecture. I was immediately greeted with savoring alcoholic-beverages and was promptly guided to a private seating area where we congregated before dinner started. Prior to our tasting, the head-chef Leon Mazairac and co-owner Michelle Lagerweij jovially introduced themselves before providing a background on the origins of Elize.
Unlike most restaurants, Elize offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, providing their patrons with a plethora of culinary options to choose from. As Michelle and Chef Leon wrapped up their introductions, the food tasting quickly commenced. From delicious seasonal oysters, Shoyu Tamago—which is a curation of deviled eggs with puffed rice— Marinated tomato varieties, chopped salad, Fish & Chips, raw tuna and many more, the food was simply to die for.
Many of the dishes were delicately made with Dutch spices and herbs while still having an America flare to it that was particularly relatable. The dinner menu is also partitioned off by cold and warm entrees, making it easier for guests to decide which dish is more suitable for their current appetite. Swing by Elize located in Downtown Orlando at your earliest convenience, and make sure to tell them David sent you. – David Plowden, David’s Manor.
