Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Collaboration
The Dr Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has played host to some of the most famous Broadway plays and musicals in the world. And as the pinnacle of the Performing Arts of Orlando, I was more than thrilled when I was given the chance to expose its beauty to my social media following.
My Dr. Phillips Center collaboration first began with a sit down with the Production Stage Manager of the world-renowned Broadway musical Hadestown. Joel Rosen, a Broadway enthusiast, is the man-in-charge when it comes to putting together one of the newest shows to the DPC’s line up. Joel and I sat down in the magnificent Walt Disney Theater, located in the heart of the DPC, to discuss his transition into his newest role and to understand his theater background.
Joel, a person who’s nested himself in the Performing Arts since childhood, spoke about his long history in theater. He’s produced countless Broadway productions such as Dirty Dancing The Musical, The Carole King and, one of my favorites, In The Heights. “I’ve have had the opportunity to take many shows around the country. And when the opportunity came to join Hadestown in March of this year, I thought it was the perfect opportunity to join and get share in telling the story for people around the country, which has been wonderful,” said Mr. Rosen.

After chatting it up with Joel Rosen, I began my tour of the the entire vicinity. I met up with the Director of Production, DW Phineas Perkins, who facilitated the tour. Phineas, who has a background in both theater and engineering, gave me a behind-the-scenes look at all of the animatronics and mechanics that go into producing a DPC show. We first began our tour inside the beautiful Steinmetz Hall.
Glistening in gold, bronze and warm yellows, the Steinmetz Hall is hands down one of most beautiful rooms in the enter center. Known for its unique look, Phineas showed me every aspect of this spectacular room. We toured the stages, the many DPC dressing rooms, and he even took me under the stage of Steinmetz Hall to see just how elaborate the auditorium is. “What we can do is, we can setup risers and orchestras, we can flip all of these seats down to make a larger orchestra pit and stage,” Phineas explained.
Stay tuned for my My DPC walk through video, which drops next week.
