A Wonderfully Wicked Night at The Disney Villains After Hours Press Event
It doesn’t matter how old I get, when I’m at one of Disney’s theme parks…I’m a kid again! Just recently, I had the pleasure of attending the press event and inaugural kick-off of Walt Disney World’s Villains After Hours event. And as we would all expect, Disney brought out all of their tricks and ghouls to make Villains’ night one to remember. After Hours is an event that Disney holds at their Walt Disney World theme parks for their guests every year. The term After Hours stems from the fact that their attendees can purchase tickets to enter the Walt Disney World theme parks after normal operating hours. This means…less people, shorter wait times and more opportunities to snag a selfie in front of Cinderella’s castle.
This was actually my second experience at one of Disney’s After Hours events—my first was at their glamorous Hollywood Studios theme park—so I already had an idea of what to expect as I made my way to the happiest place on earth…in my opinion of course. As I entered the Contemporary Resort, which sits adjacent to the Magic Kingdom theme park, I was promptly guided into one of the resort’s grand ballrooms.
Media personalities and press entities from across the land gathered as Disney’s spectacular media team courted us to a few bites and drinks before we were quickly escorted to the Magic Kingdom theme park. With this year’s theme being solely centered around many of Disney’s most popular villains, guests were able to whip out their most villainous costumes to strut in as they roamed throughout the heavily-decorated theme park. From Cruella Deville to Maleficent…Disney’s guests refused to hold back on their creativity this year. One of my favorite acts of the night was the comedic and colorful performance put on by the very blue and very evil Hercules villain Hades. A stage that was heavily manicured in accents from the movie Hercules and decorative pieces of Hades’s lair were placed directly in front of Cinderella’s castle.
This gave guests the opportunity to stop and watch the show as they continued their ventures throughout the park’s event. And with such a wonderfully wicked event going on, Disney makes sure to keep their guests’ bellies full to the brim for the entire experience. During the After Hours event, attendees can enjoy free popcorn, ice cream and selected beverages from small food carts that are scattered around the park.
All of these delectable items are included in an After Hours admission ticket—except for the gigantic lollipop. That was actually purchased by little ol’ me…I just couldn’t resist.
Also, Annual Passholders and Disney Vacation Club Members receive a $30 discount on After Hours admission tickets. So, whip out those Scar and Ursula costumes, because the Disney Villains After Hours event is going on from June 6th to August 8th. And with all of the free popcorn and extremely short wait lines for rides…I’m pretty sure you’re going to have a hard time leaving…just like I did. – David Plowden, David’s Manor.
